Meeru Management

Bert joined in 2019. He is responsible for leading the Meeru Team in providing the needs of the guests, overseeing the resort’s staff wellbeing and accomplishing the goals of the Owner. Born and raised in Germany, Bert chose a career in the hospitality industry at an early age, and today considers himself a “cosmopolitan in the industry” with nearly 30 years of experience in high-end hotel, resort and cruise ship business worldwide. Bert started his career in the industry in 1989 on the culinary side. In 1996, Bert joined the international cruising industry and played a substantial part in developing and establishing one of Germany’s major Cruise Lines. After his MBA in Hospitality and Tourism, Bert continued his career into the senior management, and from 2004 until 2018 served in different levels and positions in high-end five- and six-star international established companies all around the globe. This is Bert’s second designation in the Maldives and he is looking forward to contribute further elevating the Maldives as a great tourism destination for international holiday seekers.

Areef joined in 2000. He is responsible for the daily operations of the various Departments at Meeru. Areef graduated with a National Diploma, Institute of Hotel, Catering and Institutional Operations, Maldives and began work in 1996. Areef was promotion to Director of Operations, Meeru in 2013. He makes his home in Male’, Maldives and he speaks basic French and Japanese.

Adam joined in 1999 to Meeru. He is currently responsible for the Rooms Division Department - the heart of resort operation. Adam’s work experience spans across various departments including Accounts, Front Office and Housekeeping departments in Meeru. He has been the back-borne of front of house operation for many years and is recognized as the“die-heart” for his areas of responsibilities. His hard work and perseverance to achieve the mission and vision of Meeru has led him to being the Rooms Division Manager. Adam graduated with a Diploma in Hospitality Management at Maldives National University. In 2017, he completed his Bachelor's degree in International Hospitality Management at Taylor’s University in Malaysia. He did his internships in Hilton Seychelles and Jebel Ali Beach Hotel where he was able to widen his knowledge in Front office, Housekeeping, Accounts and Human Resource departments. This was a great top-up of hospitality experience that boosted hospitality career for Adam in many aspects. For many, Adam is one of the few team members who we can trust and really on to day to day operation and especially on front of house. For many team members Adam is the FO, mentor for many years who are currently in the operation and who have left the team.

Hamid joined in 2012. He is responsible for the Maintenance Department which keeps the Resort in good working order including the Power House, reverse osmosis fresh water plants, the sewage treatment plant, the waste disposal systems, the boat fleet, the vehicles and the facilities. Hamid graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Mechanical), University of Bradford, UK, in 2007. He began his work experience in 1997, as Marine Mechanic in his home city of Male’, Maldives.

Sobah joined in 2006. He is responsible for the IT Department, which oversees all property management and telecommunications systems for service to guests and staff. Sobah graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) In Information Technology, Asia Pacific University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2013. He began his work experience in 2005, in the Maldives, as a Teacher, for Mathematics and General Science. Sobah makes his home in Ihavandhoo, Maldives.

Shiyam joined in 2001. He is responsible for recruitment, payroll, training and development, staff housing, welfare and benefits. Shiyam graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Hospitality Management (Hons), Taylor’s University, Malaysia, in 2012. He began his work experience in 1998, in the Maldives, as Housekeeping Office Assistant. Shiyam makes his home in Bandidhoo, Maldives and he speaks basic French and Bahasa Malaysian.

Laurent Ghislain Pacolet joined Meeru in 2019 as Director of Food and Beverage. Laurent has degrees in Business Administration and in Hotel & Restaurant Management. His illustrious career has seen him work all over the world, from the French Polynesia to Canada, with highly acclaimed resorts and hotels. He brings a wealth of expertise and knowledge that will add to the magic of Meeru.

Ronaldo joined Meeru in 2010. He is responsible for the food served to our guests and staff, more than 4,000 meals each day. Ronaldo graduated from Motherwell Technical College, Scotland, UK. Ronaldo has work experience in Mauritius, Africa, Caribbean and UK. Ronaldo’s home is in Scotland, UK.

Zaid joined in 2008. He is responsible for the daily operations of the Sports, Entertainment & Activities (SEA). Zaid graduated with a BTEC National Diploma, Institue of Hotel Catering and Institutional Operations, Maldives, in 2001. He began work in the Maldives in 2002, as Sales Person, Alpha Duty Free, Male International Airport, Male’. In 2015, Zaid was promoted to Sports, Entertainment and Activities Manager. He makes his home in Ga. Kondey, Maldives.

Asad Joined in 2002. He is responsible for the purchasing department. He completed his diploma in IAB UK in 2007. Asad started his career as a Gift Shop Sales Person in 2002, working as Gift Supervisor in 2004, and transferred as purchasing officer in 2006. He was previous experience working in various Crown & Champa Resorts. Asad became the Purchasing Manager in 2017. His home is in N. Holhudhoo, Maldives.

Suzain joined in 2007. He is responsible for the Front Office Department. He Graduated with a Diploma in Hospitality Management at Maldives National University. Suzain’s work experience spans across various departments including Front Office and Sales & Marketing. He was promoted to Front Office Manager in 2019. His home in Dhiffushi, Maldives and he speaks fluent Dhivehi and English.

Riyaz joined in 1999. He is responsible for the daily operations of the Guest Transports.  Riyaz graduated with a BTEC National Diploma, Institute of Hotel Catering and Institutional Operations, Maldives in 2006. He began work in the Maldives in 1993, as a Teacher and in 1999 as Receptionist, Meeru Island Resort & Spa. Riyaz makes his home in LH. Kurendhoo, Maldives.

Zaeem joined in 2004. He is responsible for the Sales & Marketing Department. Zaeem graduated with a National Diploma, Institute of Hotel, Catering and Institutional Operations, Maldives in 2016. He began his work experience in 2000, in the Maldives, as Waiter. Zaeem was promoted to Sales & Marketing Manager in 2015. His home is in H.Dh. Nellaidhoo, Maldives and he speaks English and Dhivehi.

Latheef joined in 2001. He is responsible for all nighttime Resort operations between 1100 and 0700. He graduated with a Higher Diploma in Hotel Management, Taylor’s College School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Malaysia in 2009. Latheef began work in the Maldives in 1989, as Assistant Supervisor, Coffee Shop, Bandos Island Resort. His home is in Male’, Maldives and he speaks basic German.

Dr. Ishaque joined in 2012. He is responsible for the care of our guests and staff, serves on the Resort Health & Safety Committee and oversees the periodic medical examination of our staff for Public Health matters. He graduated with an M.B.B.S., from Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro/Hyderabad, Sindh, Pakistan, in 2001. He has served various posts in his hometown of Sindh, Pakistan. Dr. Ishaque speaks Dhivehi, Urdu and Hindi.
